Both teams are having disappointing seasons. The Red Sox have been struggling with injuries while the Angels have been very inconsistent. Boston is 55-43 but they are 7 games behind the first place New York Yankees. The Angels are in second place but are 6 games behind the Texas Rangers for first place in the American League West. Boston has been struggling as of late losing 6 out of their last 10 games. The Angels are 5-5 in their last 10 games played. Like I stated earlier, this series is very important for both teams. In order to make up any ground, one team most dominate the series. In my humble opinion look for the Red Sox to play well with Lackey on the mound but struggle in the other games. If Victor Martinez can make it back, it will be a huge lift for the Boston Red Sox. Boston manager Terry Francona stated: "I actually think he's probably going to be ready. It seems kind of silly to make the decision today. He's going to catch some more guys and if he comes in and says, 'Hey, I'm hurting,' we're not going to do it. I think all things point to him being ready to go." Martinez's return will not only boost production but it will give the pitchers a lift as well. Francona has acknowledged his team's troubles but stated that the injuries have not gotten the team down. "They've all been good," said Francona. "I don't think people realize how extraordinary what we have going here is. You don't see this. I've been a lot of places. You don't see guys standing around the cage in a chair. You don't see guys on crutches trying to play. It doesn't happen. This is an extraordinary group right now. Sometimes I think that gets lost. It's amazing." The Angels who are very average as of late must win this series. In order to set the tone they will have to beat Clay Bucholz who is 10-5 with a 2.81 ERA. In order to try and accomplish this the Angels will send Joel Pineiro. Pineiro is 10-6 with a much higher ERA of 4.15. Pinerio did pitch one season with Boston in 2006 where he went 1-1 with an ERA of 5.03. From a betting angles, players should look at totals instead of sides. Both teams are not hitting the ball well so we should see game totals at 8 or 8.5. In my opinions, the UNDER should be strongly considered for most of the games.

On Tuesday July 27th the LA Angels play host to the Boston Red Sox in a series that is very important to both teams. John Lackey (9-5) with an unusual ERA of 4.36 will face Joe Saunders who has a dismal record of 6-10 with an ERA of 4.62. The Red Sox are 25-23 on the road while the Angels maintain a 27-21 record at home. Boston and the Angels will play Game 1 on Monday after finishing up series with the Mariners and the Rangers.
