| The LA Dodgers Gain Momentum against the Atlanta Braves |
Generating offense has been an issue all season for Los Angeles, which entered Monday near the bottom of the majors with 52 runs scored. It was held to two runs in three straight contests before showing a little more punch in a 4-2 win over Atlanta on Monday. Jerry Sands, the Dodgers’ minor league player of the year last season, made his major league debut in left field and was 1 for 3 with a sacrifice fly. The 23-year-old batted .400 with five homers and 17 RBIs in 10 games with Triple-A Albuquerque. He was a 25th-round draft pick in 2008 out of Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C. Sands doubled his first time up and added a sacrifice fly in the third. The Dodgers will try to keep things going against Brandon Beachy (0-1, 5.19 ERA), who struggled over 5 1-3 innings against Florida on Thursday, giving up five runs and seven hits in a 6-5 loss. He struck out eight and left without a decision. Beachy, winless in six major league starts, will be making his first appearance against the Dodgers. The right-hander may not be able to count on much support from his offense, which is 3 for 16 with runners in scoring position the last two games. Jason Heyward, moved up to the second spot in the batting order, went 0 for 4 Monday. He’s hitting .143 the last six games. Heyward is 0 for 5 with a walk and a strikeout against Hiroki Kuroda (2-1, 3.48), who looks to rebound from his first loss. Kuroda was reached for six runs and 10 hits over five innings of a 9-5 loss to St. Louis on Thursday. The right-hander entered that start with a 1.72 ERA. Kuroda is 1-3 in four career starts against Atlanta despite a 1.93 ERA. He hasn’t received much support from his teammates, who have scored four runs in those 28 innings. The Dodgers keep winning as the offense of the Braves struggles. MLB Picks: LA Dodgers Bet MLB all season long at Bet Phoenix.
