| The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees clash in game one as they renew their rivalry |
Looking to remedy their early season inconsistency, the Boston Red Sox hope facing the struggling New York Yankees will provide an opportunity to string together some victories. With each team seeking to avoid a third consecutive loss, the Red Sox will try to continue their recent success over the Yankees when the rivals meet Friday night in the Bronx. Boston (17-20) hopes its only off day in May on Thursday will help it leave a pair of losses at Toronto in the past and focus on rebounding against New York, which has lost six of nine to fall out of first place for the first time since April 13. After an 0-6 start, Boston took two of three against New York (20-15) at Fenway Park from April 8-10. The Red Sox have won 10 of 16 against the Yankees, including five of eight in the Bronx. Boston might be facing New York at the right time after the Yankees lost 11-5 on Thursday to drop the final two of a three-game home set against Kansas City. The Red Sox are trying to focus less on the opponent and more on playing better baseball overall. Dustin Pedroia is batting .237, but posted three straight three-hit games with a homer and five RBIs against the Yankees last month. Crawford went 1 for 15 in that series, but is batting .356 during an 11-game hitting streak. He’s hit .338 with 11 RBIs his last 17 games in the Bronx. Clay Buchholz (3-3, 4.19 ERA) tries to win his third straight start for the Red Sox on Friday. The right-hander has allowed two runs in 11 2-3 innings of his last two starts. Rain limited his last outing where Buchholz yielded two hits in five innings of a 4-0 win over Minnesota on Saturday. New York counters with Bartolo Colon (2-1, 3.86), who will pitch amidst controversy after Major League Baseball announced Wednesday it is examining a procedure performed last year that involved stem cells being injected into his shoulder and elbow. The right-hander is 2-0 with a 3.81 ERA in four starts, but allowed five runs and nine hits in 4 1-3 innings of a 7-5 loss at Texas on Saturday. Colon, 8-9 with a 4.19 ERA in 22 starts versus Boston, and will struggle in game one as Boston beats the Yankees! MLB Sports Betting Picks: Boston Red Sox
