| MLB Baseball Series Preview: LA Angels vs. Seattle Mariners |
The latest MLB Baseball Odds have the Mariners listed as small favorites and that is most likely due to the fact that they are playing at home. The Halos will send Dan Haren to the hill in game one. Haren was knocked around a bit by Tampa Bay in his last start, allowing three runs in his first four innings, but calmed down to retire the last nine batters he faced. His 2.41 ERA is still fifth-best in the American League. The Mariners will come back with Jason Vargas. Vargas has given up just three runs in 16 1/3 innings over his past two starts, though he came away with a no decision Wednesday when the bullpen blew a lead against Chicago. Vargas is 4-1 with a 3.12 ERA over his last eight starts. In game two the Halos will send their ace to the hill in the form of Jared Weaver. Weaver was good enough to win against the Rays on June 8, giving up three runs on six hits in seven 2/3 innings, but the Angels offense wasn't. Los Angeles hopes his workload (100.1 IP already) doesn't slow him down. Weaver will face off against Doug Fister as the Mariners attempt to steal a win in this series. Fister saw his record drop to 3-7 with a 4-1 loss at Detroit on Thursday, but he's received little help with the Mariners scoring eight runs total in his seven losses. He's 1-3 in his last six starts despite a 3.40 ERA. In the finale of this series, the Angels will give the ball to Ervin Santana and he will go up against veteran Erik Bedard. Bedard is 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA in his last eight starts with 48 strikeouts and 12 walks. He's received no-decisions in his last three outings, but continues pitching very well coming off his 18-month layoff. The sports betting trends for this series are in favor of the visiting team as the Angels are 39-18 in the last 57 meetings. The Mariners will have trouble winning this series with Vargas and Fister both getting starts. The Mariners are 5-11 in Vargas' last 16 starts during game 1 of a series and 3-8 in Vargas' last 11 home starts. The Angels miss the heart of the Mariners pitching rotation as they don’t have to face Michael Pineda or Felix Hernandez. This is good news for the Angels as they attempt to get back on a winning track that will allow them to get back in the race in the American League West. The Mariners have struggled all year long to get their offense going and since they will be facing the best pitchers in the Angels rotation, this series could be a very quiet one for the home team. The Mariners struggle to get runs across the plate and do not get much help from the starting rotation and the result is a big win for the Angels. This series could easily be a sweep by the Angels as they have the edge in nearly every category. MLB Series Betting Picks: LA Angels
