| MLB Baseball Series Preview: Atlanta Braves vs. Florida Marlins |
The latest MLB Baseball Odds have the Braves listed as favorites to win this series. In game one the Braves will send veteran hurler Tommy Hanson to the hill. Hanson has allowed two earned runs or fewer in seven of his past eight starts. He has limited opponents to a .170 batting average during that span. He tossed seven scoreless innings against the Marlins on April 12. The Marlins will send an unknown rookie up against Hanson to try and steal game one. A second-round pick in the 2008 Draft, Hand will be making his MLB debut. The 21-year-old becomes the first lefty starter of the year for Florida. At Double-A Jacksonville, he has made 11 starts, and he has won four straight since May 16. Hand, the former second-round pick in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, throws in the 88-93 mph range with a plus curveball. He has a 7-1 record with a 3.53 ERA at Double-A this season. Game two will pit sinker ball pitcher Derek Lowe up against the talented Ricky Nolasco. This could provide a low scoring game, if both players are on their game. In the series finale Jair Jurrjens will get the call for Atlanta to try and wrap up a winning series. He will be opposed by Chris Volstad for Florida. The Braves will rest a player, while another one returns to the lineup. Brian McCann will have Tuesday off and Chipper Jones, who was given the day off Sunday, will return to the lineup Tuesday. The other Braves hitters are picking up the slack. Freddie Freeman went hitless Saturday to snap a string of four consecutive multi-hit games, but rebounded quickly and went 2-for-4 in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Mets. The latest sports betting trends favor a low scoring series as both teams boast solid pitching. The under is 5-1 in the last six meetings and 3-0-1 in Hansons last four starts against the Marlins. The Braves are 4-1 in Hanson’s last five starts against Florida, and if they get a game one win it could propel them to a series win. The Braves enter this series as the hotter team. The Marlins are just 2-8 in the last ten overall and they are struggling to get solid pitching. The team has a 6.75 ERA over the last ten starts and will need to do better if they want to win a game against the Braves. After the Milwaukee series, nine of Florida's next 11 opponents have a record of .500 or better. The Marlins will face three first-place teams -- Arizona, Philadelphia and Texas -- in that stretch. That is not a good sign for a team that is in the middle of a slump. The Braves have the edge in this series in the pitching department and will take advantage of a flounder fish in the Marlins.
