Online sportsbook BetPhoenix has the latest odds and wagering opportunities on every game in baseball. While they’ll have to wait for Derek Jeter to resume his pursuit of 3,000 hits, the New York Yankees showed they can collect plenty of hits in his absence. With their captain on the disabled list, the Yankees look for another strong performance Wednesday night against the Texas Rangers, who are seeking to avoid a season-high fourth straight defeat. Jeter, six hits shy of becoming the 28th player with 3,000, injured his right calf during Monday’s 1-0 loss to Cleveland. Before Tuesday’s series opener, the Yankees placed him on the disabled list for the first time since 2003. He isn’t eligible to return until June 29. Without their longtime shortstop in the lineup, the Yankees (37-28) still managed to rack up 14 hits in a 12-4 rout. All but one Yankees starter had at least one hit, with Jeter’s replacement Eduardo Nunez going 2 for 4 with an RBI. Curtis Granderson hit his fourth homer in six games and matched a season high with four RBIs to pace the Yankees. Having won four of five following a three-game skid, New York will try to continue its success against Rangers starter Derek Holland (5-1, 4.41 ERA). The left-hander is 0-3 with an 8.31 ERA in four career regular-season starts against the Yankees, although he did earn a win in relief in Game 4 of last October’s AL championship series. He’s 0-2 with a 7.80 ERA in three career appearances in the Bronx. “I know my record hasn’t been that good at Yankee Stadium, outside of the playoffs, but I like pitching here,” Holland told the Rangers’ official website. “I like being in a place where fans are rooting against me, booing me, wanting me to do bad.” Holland lost in the Bronx on April 16, but is 3-0 in 10 starts since then despite a 4.65 ERA. After recording his second career shutout June 4 at Cleveland, he matched a career high with 10 strikeouts Thursday, giving up four runs over 7 1-3 innings but avoiding the decision in a 5-4 defeat at Minnesota. Mark Teixeira is 6 for 12 with two home runs off Holland, the most hits the Texas starter has given up to one batter. The Yankees will counter with Ivan Nova (5-4, 4.30), who is coming off his first win in four starts. The right-hander allowed two runs and four hits over seven innings of Friday’s 11-7 victory over Cleveland. Nova has had mixed results in his two matchups with the Rangers (36-32). He gave up five runs over 4 1-3 innings of a 5-3 home loss April 15, but limited Texas to one unearned run and two hits over 7 1-3 frames during a 4-1 road win May 6. New York is seeking its sixth win in seven games against Texas overall, and seventh in the last eight regular-season meetings in the Bronx. The Rangers even up the series with a big win on ESPN. It’s not rare for the New York Yankees to be on primetime, but they will be without Derek Jeter when they do it.
