The New York Yankees Attempt To Continue Streaking Against the Texas RangersThe New York Yankees have had problems with pitching and problems with injuries, but somehow they keep winning baseball games. Now they are looking to win again when the play the third game against the Texas Rangers.

The New York Yankees’ offense seems to be handling Derek Jeter’s trip to the disabled list quite well. The only bad news is that Thursday afternoon is the last look they’ll get at the Texas Rangers’ pitching staff.

The Yankees have scored 12 runs in each of two routs in the Bronx - just like they did in Arlington last month - and can hit double digits for a fourth straight game against one team for the first time in 62 years.

All eyes were on Jeter’s quest for his 3,000th hit, and New York’s captain was only six away from becoming the first player to reach that milestone in a Yankee uniform when he strained his right calf Monday in Cleveland.

He was placed on the 15-day DL for the first time since 2003 on Tuesday, but New York (38-28) didn’t miss him as it clubbed three homers in a 12-4 rout of Texas later that night.

Eduardo Nunez, Jeter’s fill-in, had two hits Tuesday and two more Wednesday, including one of the Yankees’ five homers. Mark Teixeira went deep twice - once from each side of the plate - as New York rolled to another 12-4 win, handing Texas (36-33) a season-high fourth straight loss while scoring 12 runs for the third straight time in the series.

Wednesday’s win gave the Yankees a 6-2 edge in a season series that concludes Thursday, when they can do something they haven’t done since 1949. That’s the last time New York scored 10 or more runs in four consecutive games against one opponent, when it hit double digits against the St. Louis Browns four times from May 4-June 4 without Joe DiMaggio, who missed the first half of that season with a heel injury.

The Yankees haven’t scored 10-plus in three straight games since Aug. 18-19, 2006, which included a doubleheader sweep of Boston.

It’ll be up to C.J. Wilson (7-3, 3.09 ERA) to try to quiet New York’s bats, something he’s been doing fairly regularly to the rest of the league recently. Opponents have batted .192 against the left-hander during his five straight quality starts, including a 9-3 win at Minnesota on Friday in which he gave up three runs over seven innings.

The forecast calls for sunny conditions in Yankee Stadium on Thursday, which will be a welcome change for Wilson after a persistent downpour in Minneapolis.

Heavy rains actually cut Wilson’s only previous start in the Bronx short April 16, 2010. He gave up five runs - three earned - in a 5-1, six-inning loss.

Wilson had a 5.65 ERA in three starts against the Yankees last season, but should have no qualms about facing three of New York’s top power sources. Teixeira, Curtis Granderson and Alex Rodriguez are a combined 1 for 24 lifetime against Wilson.

Texas’ starters, however, have an 8.10 ERA in their last nine games.

The Yankees may need another big day at the plate with career minor leaguer Brian Gordon set to start for the injured Bartolo Colon. Gordon, a converted outfielder, was 5-0 with an International League-leading 1.14 ERA for Lehigh Valley, the Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate.

Gordon, whose only major league experience is three games out of Texas’ bullpen in 2008, exercised an opt-out clause with Lehigh Valley to sign with the Yankees.

The Yankees won’t be able to keep their momentum going and they will lose to the Rangers.
