The Chicago Cubs Take on the Colorado Rockies in a Make Up game
The Chicago Cubs Take on the Colorado RocThe Chicago Cubs and the Colorado Rockies will take a much needed break from Interleague play to meet at Wrigley field for a makeup game.

As the Cubs and Rockies make up a rained out game on Monday at Wrigley Field, Colorado adds another road game to its strenuous slate leading into the All-Star break. And the Cubs will again try to capitalize on a date at their home ballpark.

It'll be the sixth meeting of the season between the two National League foes, who were rained out on April 27 in odd circumstances that saw a game called without any rain.

"Look, it is what it is," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said. "Fortunately, I guess, they called it soon enough that we got on a plane and got back to Denver at a sensible hour. We have a makeup game. That's what the schedule says we have to do, so we're not going to sit around and moan about it or complain about it. We're going to go there with Jhoulys Chacin and try to win a game."

The Rockies have won four of the five meetings between the two teams this season, outscoring Chicago 26-19 in those games.

The Cubs are 16-22 at home and 15-24 on the road. They did win a four-game series against the Brewers at home, 3-1, before the current road trip, though.

Monday's makeup date kicks off a two-day period in which the Cubs will play three games -- one against Colorado and a doubleheader on Tuesday against the Giants to start a four-game set.

It may mean some extra scheming for Cubs manager Mike Quade.

"We're going to handle them like we should if we're in position to win a ballgame," Quade said of his pitching staff. "But there's no question that with a doubleheader coming up and a makeup game, that somewhere in the back of your mind you're looking at that."

Right-hander Matt Garza will take the hill for the Cubs on Monday, coming off a no-decision in a game that was also impacted by weather.

He gave up two runs on four hits over five innings, striking out four against the White Sox, but failed to earn his fourth win of the year.

Garza is 0-3 with a 5.29 ERA in his career against the Rockies.

Young right-hander Jhoulys Chacin looks for his ninth win of the year on Monday against the Cubs, which would tie the mark he set for wins last year in his rookie campaign.

Chacin has not allowed more than one run in any of his last four starts, dating to May 29 against the Cardinals -- when he last lost.

If Chacin wants to get a win he will have to slow down the red-hot Starlin Castro who extended his hitting streak to a career-best 10 games with a first-inning single on Sunday against the Royals. His 103 hits entering Sunday were second in the National League and third in the Majors.

This game is not convenient for either team, but the Cubs will have the edge playing at home.
