MLB Preview San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres
MLB Preview San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego PadresThe San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres series should have been an easy sweep for the Giants, but not against the Padres.

Opposing teams haven’t liked playing at AT&T Park this season. The San Diego Padres have enjoyed their visits to northern California for most of the last two years. Looking to extend their uncanny success in San Francisco, the San Diego Padres continue their four-game set with the Giants on Wednesday night.

The Padres won for the 12th time in 15 games at the Giants’ Bay Area home after a 5-3 victory Tuesday. With San Diego trailing 3-2 in the sixth, Cameron Maybin had a two-run triple and scored on rookie Anthony Rizzo’s single.

Maybin finished with three hits and a season high-tying three RBIs.

All-Star closer Heath Bell had runners on second and third with one out in the ninth, but worked out of the jam and lifted the Padres (40-47) to their 10th win in 13 games overall.

“Every game is different, but this is nothing new to Padres-Giants games,” said San Diego manager Bud Black, whose team was eliminated from playoff contention at AT&T Park on the final day last season.

Starting pitcher Matt Cain singled home a run, but lost for the first time since May 29. Pablo Sandoval went 1 for 4, extending his career-best hitting streak to 16 games for San Francisco, which has the NL West’s best home record at 24-15.

Looking to avoid a season high-tying third straight loss, Dustin Moseley (2-8, 3.07 ERA) will take the mound for the Padres.

After falling to Atlanta on June 25, the right-hander gave up five runs and seven hits with four walks in 4 2-3 innings of Friday’s 6-0 defeat to Seattle.

“At this level, you can’t fall behind in counts, and for me to pitch effectively I definitely can’t fall behind in counts,” said Moseley, who also lost three consecutive starts from April 3-14 and May 7-18

Moseley has 31 walks in 93 2-3 innings to rank third on the club behind Clayton Richard (38) and Mat Latos (36). Richard was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained right shoulder.

This will be Moseley’s first appearance against the Giants (48-39).

Madison Bumgarner (4-9, 3.65) gets the nod for San Francisco as he tries to win consecutive home starts for the first time in 2011.

The left-hander had been 0-5 with a 5.82 ERA before breaking out June 26 against Cleveland. Bumgarner struck out a career-best 11 over seven innings and allowed one run and six hits in San Francisco’s 3-1 victory.

He followed that Friday with another strong outing in Detroit, but didn’t get a decision in the Giants’ 4-3 loss. Bumgarner fanned nine and yielded one run and five hits in 7 1-3 innings.

Bumgarner lost to the Padres in his season debut April 3, when he lasted just three innings at Petco Park. Despite a 2.96 ERA, Bumgarner is 0-2 in five games, including four starts, versus San Diego.

The Padres stay on a winning streak and sweep the G-men.
