MLB Picks, Predictions and Pitching Matchups for Friday July 8th
MLB Picks, Predictions and Pitching Matchups for Friday July 8thDerek Jeter is working on 3,000 hits and that is just one great story line for Friday night baseball. The MLB schedule for the weekend is jam packed with great series that will affect the playoff race before heading into the All-Star break.

Here is a preview along with predictions of some of the best matchups of the day. To see yesterday’s results, click here.

New York Mets vs. San Francisco Giants

The New York Mets try and continue their impressive run as they continue their west coast trip. R.A. Dickey left his last start after five innings -- and 85 pitches -- with tightness in his left glute. But he pitched well before his departure, allowing one run on five hits. He struck out three and walked two. Now he gets the nod against the G-men.

Ryan Vogelsong tossed another quality start Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks while striking out five as the Giants eventually lost. The first-time All-Star is 3-1 with a 1.01 ERA in seven home games (six starts).

The Mets are 6-13 in Dickeys last 19 starts on grass and the Mets are 2-6 in the last eight meetings to include 1-4 in the last five meetings in San Francisco.

The Mets have a tough time in this series and dump game one against the Giants.

MLB Free Pick: San Francisco Giants

Tampa Bay Rays vs. New York Yankees

The New York Yankees are stumbling as they head into the All-Star break and all eyes are on Derek Jeter as he attempts to collect his 3,000 hit. The Tampa Bay rays do not want it to happen against them.

Jeremy Hellickson will get the starting nod for the Rays. The right-hander turned in 7 1/3 innings and allowed just three runs on six hits against the Cardinals in his last start to snap his four-game losing skid. However, he has now allowed seven homers in his past five starts.

Freddy Garcia was in line for his eighth win after delivering seven innings of one-run ball against the Mets in his last start, but Mariano Rivera's fourth blown save of the year left the veteran right-hander with a no-decision.

The Rays are 3-7 in their last 10 games as a road underdog of +110 to +150 and the Yankees are 4-1 in Garcias last five home starts vs. a team with a winning record.

Look for another good outing from Garcia and this time the Yankees provide him with plenty of run support to get the job done.

MLB Free Pick: New York Yankees -1.5
