MLB All-Star Game: Handicapping the Lineups
MLB All-Star Game: Handicapping the LineupsThe 2011 MLB All-Star Game is almost here and if you’re going to bet on the big game, you have to take a look at the lineups. From the starting pitchers to the bats in the lineup, scouring the players available is key to picking a winner.

Roy Halladay of the Philadelphia Phillies and Jered Weaver of the Los Angeles Angels will be the men on the mound when Tuesday's All-Star game gets underway.

That was the announcement made by managers Bruce Bochy and Ron Washington in a Monday morning press conference that also featured the naming of the game's lineups (see below).

For Halladay, it's his second All-Star start in the last three years, though the last one came in 2009 when he was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. The Phillies' ace beat out strong cases posted by Jair Jurrjens of the Atlanta Braves and fellow teammate Cliff Lee. Halladay is 11-3 with a 2.43 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 138 strikeouts in 2011. This is his eighth All-Star appearance overall.

"When you talk about the best, this guy is at the top," Bochy said of Halladay. The naming of Weaver did not come as a surprise on Monday morning, given that it had already been announced on Sunday and because Justin Verlander and James Shields are both ineligible to pitch in the game, having started on Sunday. Weaver is 11-4 with a 1.86 ERA, a 0.91 WHIP and 120 strikeouts this season. This is his second All-Star appearance.

The two managers also announced their starting lineups for Tuesday's game:

American League starting lineup
1. Curtis Granderson, New York Yankees, CF
2. Asdrubal Cabrera, Cleveland Indians, SS
3. Adrian Gonzalez, Boston Red Sox 1B
4. Jose Bautista, Toronto Blue Jays, RF
5. Josh Hamilton, Texas Rangers, LF
6. Adrian Beltre, Texas Rangers, 3B
7. David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox, DH
8. Robinson Cano, New York Yankees, 2B
9. Alex Avila, Detroit Tigers, C

National League starting lineup
1. Rickie Weeks, Milwaukee Brewers, 2B
2. Carlos Beltran New York Mets, DH
3. Matt Kemp, Los Angeles Dodgers, CF
4. Prince Fielder, Milwaukee Brewers, 1B
5. Brian McCann, Atlanta Braves, C
6. Lance Berkman, St. Louis Cardinals, RF
7. Matt Holliday, St. Louis Cardinals, LF
8. Troy Tulowitzki, Colorado Rockies, SS
9. Scott Rolen, Cincinnati Reds, 3B

Both sides off great talent and while the National League has the edge in pitching, the American League roster seems deeper with hitting. That will be the difference when these two teams face and the AL gets a win and steals home field advantage in the World Series.
