The New York Yankees start the second half of the season against the Toronto Blue Jays
The New York Yankees start the second half of the season against the Toronto Blue JaysWhen the second half of the season starts, the New York Yankees will go up against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Betting baseball will make the long season more exciting and there is no place better to wager on major league baseball than BetMania. Online sportsbook BetMania has the latest odds and wagering opportunities on every game in baseball.

The Yankees and Blue Jays will reconvene for the second half on Thursday with some easily recognizable goals in mind. New York sits just one game outside of first place in the American League East, while Toronto is two games under .500 and boasts perhaps the league's top candidate for Most Valuable Player.

The Yankees will go after the AL East crown without All-Star third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who on Monday underwent arthroscopic surgery to correct a meniscus tear in his right knee. He is expected to be out for four to six weeks, but the veteran should return in time for the September stretch run.

For the Blue Jays, Jose Bautista has found a way to forge a fitting encore to his breakout season, and he went into the season's intermission with league-high marks in on-base and slugging percentage. Bautista also leads the Major Leagues with 31 home runs, and he closed out last season with an impressive finishing kick.

Bautista batted .287 -- 50 points better than his first-half mark -- and knocked 30 home runs in 73 games after the All-Star break last season en route to a fourth-place finish in MVP balloting.

The Blue Jays closed out their first half with a 4-3 road trip, and they've gone 26-25 away from Rogers Centre this season. Toronto is 19-22 at home, and it will send left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes to the mound, while New York will counter with veteran Bartolo Colon.

Reyes is coming off a win in his last start prior to the All-Star break, throwing 5 2/3 shutout inning against the Indians. He last faced the Yankees on May 25, giving up five runs on three innings.

The Yankees, meanwhile, will work their way back into a hectic pennant race over the next few days. New York will take on Tampa Bay after the Toronto series, the second half of an eight-game road trip against division rivals. The Yankees went into the All-Star break leading the Majors in home runs (123) and multihomer games (31).

Colon has won four of his last five decisions, but he's had mixed results in his two starts since coming off a three-week stint on the disabled list. The right-hander has started twice against the Blue Jays this season, notching a 1-1 record and a 5.68 ERA. He's 9-4 with a 3.84 career mark against Toronto.

This should be a great start to the second half of the season to see how the Yankees will fare without A-Rod in a very tough series.
