The Chicago White Sox Head out To Kansas City To Take on the Royals
The Chicago White Sox Head out To Kansas City To Take on the RoyalsTwo teams will face off on Monday that are looking for some consistency. The Chicago White Sox and the Kansas City Royals have struggled to put solid wins together.

Royals manager Ned Yost said right-hander Kyle Davies looked like two different pitchers -- one, when he allowed five runs in the first three innings, and another when he followed that with three shutout frames -- in his latest outing, yet another loss.

The skipper and his club will no doubt hope to see the latter on Monday against the division-rival White Sox.

Davies (1-8, 7.74) continues to search for successful consistency, something he only found by the time it was too late in a July 8 loss to the Tigers. He is 3-2 with a 4.87 ERA against the White Sox, who took two of three in a weekend series against those same Tigers.

"I guess after you haven't won in a while, you just want to do everything you can to win a ballgame, whether I win it or the team wins it," said Davies, who is winless since April 13 and spent parts of May and June on the disabled list with right rotator cuff inflammation. "It stinks to lose."

The White Sox have won five straight road series of at least three games entering Monday's series opener at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

Manager Ozzie Guillen will hand the ball to veteran Mark Buehrle to open the series, as the right-hander looks to maintain the consistent pace he set before the All-Star break.

Buehrle has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last 13 starts dating back to April 22, and has gone six full frames in all but one of those outings.

In his last appearance, he scattered just four hits across eight shutout innings against the Twins, but took his fourth consecutive no-decision.

"[It] was one of those days where everything was working," Buehrle said. "You get to 120 pitches, usually you're kind of ready to be done, but I told [pitching coach Don Cooper] I felt so good -- obviously knowing it wasn't going to happen -- but I felt like I could have went back out there. I felt that strong."

Since May 7, the White Sox have gone from 11 games under .500 (11-22) and 11 games back of first place in the AL Central to just three games below .500 and four games off the pace. The Royals have not won many games, but they tend to keep them close.

The Royals have had 52 of their 95 games (55 percent) determined by two runs or fewer. They're 16-19 in one-run games and 4-13 in two-run decisions. This will be another close game, but the Royals will finish on top.
