Baseball Betting Preview: Cleveland Indians vs. Chicago White Sox

The Cleveland Indians vs. Chicago White Sox will be a crucial game as both teams get ready for a post season run in an interesting divisional chase.

With both clubs chasing the American League Central-leading Tigers, the Indians and White Sox have a chance to beat up on each other for the next three games.

Cleveland (60-57) was rained out in Sunday's series finale with the Twins, a chance to sweep three games from a divisional opponent washed away. But, if one of the Indians or White Sox gets a sustained bounce in their favor, either could be in first place by the end of the week.

Detroit (64-56) leads Cleveland by 2 1/2 games and the White Sox (60-60) by four.

After an off-day for both clubs on Monday, the White Sox and Indians kick off their series at 7:10 p.m. CT at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, and it's the White Sox who have had the leg up in head-to-head matches so far. The White Sox have won six of their seven meetings this season.

"Not at all," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said when asked if he was surprised by Cleveland's run this season. "I saw them in Spring Training four times. [Opening Day] we were beating them up pretty good and they still made it an interesting game. I go, 'Hmm, they're for real.'

"We have to win series. If we win series -- it was our fault we didn't win series early in the season. We put ourselves in that position. We can't blame anyone else. We dig this hole and we have to come out and not dig it deeper."

For Cleveland's Ubaldo Jimenez, Monday is an opportunity to build on a dynamite outing against the Tigers that he delivered on Wednesday. He allowed three unearned runs in eight strong innings, and he has 13 strikeouts in as many innings since he was acquired from the Rockies.

Right-hander Gavin Floyd pitches for the White Sox, and he has four wins in his last five outings. He's taken a decision in seven straight outings and nine of his last 10.

After taking on the White Sox, the Indians visit Detroit -- their fourth straight series against an AL Central opponent. That will cause the Indians to look ahead and lose the first game of this series.
