Lefty Bruce Chen will take the mound for the Royals on Wednesday in Kansas City, which is usually a good thing for the home team. After all, Chen is 4-1 with a 3.54 ERA at Kauffman Stadium this season.

But the Yankees are in town. And while it might seem like they mash against whoever is on the mound, the Bronx Bombers absolutely abolish left-handed pitching.

New York is 26-10 against left-handed starters this season, having posted wins in 14 of their last 17 games. They're batting .285 against all left-handed pitchers and have hit 47 homers against southpaws.

Chen, however, isn't your typical lefty, as he has shown in his last two-plus seasons with the Royals. In his last start, Chen held the White Sox to one hit in six shutout innings, leading manager Ned Yost to explain the lefty's success.

"He's the winningest pitcher we've had here in the last two years, and it's because he's crafty, he doesn't give in, he changes speeds and keeps the ball down," Yost said afterward.

On the hill for the Yankees will be right-hander Bartolo Colon, who has taken no-decisions in his past two starts and allowed two runs in each of his last four outings.

Third baseman Alex Rodriguez, recovering from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, went 1-for-3 with a single and played six innings at third base in a rehab game with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. The Yankees are winning without him right now and will continue that trend against a Kansas City team that has packed it in for the year.
