| MLB Betting Preview: Baltimore Oriels vs. Minnesota Twins |
Kevin Slowey wanted a start and finally got one last time out, but he couldn't win it for the Twins. He'll try again on Wednesday. Jeremy Guthrie didn't even get his scheduled start, missing a turn in the rotation for the Orioles because of right shoulder soreness, but he'll be back on Wednesday when Minnesota hosts Baltimore in Target Field. It's been an interesting season for Slowey, who started the season in the bullpen and missed 79 games with two trips to the disabled list because of right shoulder bursitis and an abdominal strain. Slowey told the organization he wanted to be converted back to a starter and has that chance with Scott Baker on the DL, but his first go-around didn't go so well. He allowed six runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss against the Yankees. "I feel good but, obviously, I'm disappointed I didn't throw the ball better," Slowey said. "I wanted to go out there and throw better, especially toward the end. I had the opportunity to keep us in the game in those middle innings, but didn't." As for the rest of the season, Slowey said he simply wants to improve. "I don't think there's any reason to label anything a lost season," Slowey said. "I guess the season is only a loss if you let it be one, and regardless of how things finish up, it won't be a lost season for me. I've had plenty of experiences that I'll take with me regardless of how this season finishes. So, obviously I want to finish well." For Guthrie, who has thrown a staff-leading 164 innings, Wednesday might serve as the start of a good run after a slump that has seen him accumulate a 7.32 ERA with five strikeouts over his past three starts. He lasted 5 2/3 innings in his last outing, allowing six earned runs on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout against the Tigers. With Guthrie’s latest rebound, and a chance to bust the streak, the orioles will take down the Twins. Play on Baltimore Orioles
