| MLB Preview: Cincinnati Reds vs. Philadelphia Phillies |
Cole Hamels won't be the only one a little rusty. Hurricane Irene messed up the Phillies' plans during the weekend, as they played just one game against the Marlins. The teams will make up the weekend games as part of a day/night doubleheader on Sept. 15. On Monday, the Phillies will make their way inland to Cincinnati, where weather likely won't hinder their plans as Hamels makes his return from the 15-day disabled list. Hamels hasn't pitched since leaving his Aug. 12 start with a dead arm, but he is good to go according to pitching coach Rich Dubee. Taking the mound for the Reds is right-hander Homer Bailey, who has worked seven innings in two of his last three starts. In his last outing, Bailey allowed three runs on five hits in seven innings against the Marlins. He last faced the Phillies on May 26, giving up four runs in four innings, and is 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA in four career starts against them. This could later the picthing rotation. Prior to Saturday's postponement, Cliff Lee already was pushed back to Tuesday, which would give the lefty eight days of rest. With Saturday's rainout, the rotation continued to be pushed back. "It's just pretty hard to get guys slotted in on their fifth day, but we have got to deal with it," Dubee said. "We're not the only people dealing with it, so you just have to move on and deal with it the best way you can. We'll be fine." Roy Halladay will start Tuesday, while Lee will pitch Wednesday. "It gives us a chance -- I don't mind pitching the two lefties back to back -- but one, this gives [Halladay] the chance to have his bullpen today and get him on a regular cycle with two days in between a bullpen and his next start," Dubee said. "And it gives us a chance to split Cole and Cliff." This game will be an interesting one for the Phillies as they attempt to prepare the team for a deep run into the playoffs. Tags:
