Major League Baseball Pitching Matchups for Wednesday September 13th
Major League Baseball Pitching Matchups for Wednesday September 13th

The MLB season is still putting out a great product, day-in and day-out. The season may be close to being over, but teams still have plenty of reason to play for a win. Young pitchers are attempting to do well at the next level, while other teams are adjusting the starting rotation for the post season run as they attempt to get a ring.

Here is a look at the must see matchups and some great pitching matchups for Wednesday.

Houston Astros vs. Philadelphia Phillies

A.J. Happ has pitched better lately after losing four in a row. He's given the Astros good outings in his last three starts but will be tested against his former team.

Roy Halladay seems to be in a three-man race for the NL Cy Young Award with Cliff Lee and Clayton Kershaw. Halladay threw eight strong innings Friday in a victory over Milwaukee, allowing four hits, one run and three walks and striking out nine.

San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres

Tim Lincecum was once again excellent but didn't get a win Friday against the Dodgers. He allowed one run over eight innings but didn't factor into the decision as the Giants lost, 2-1. He has received two runs of support or fewer in 19 of his 30 starts.

Matt Latos allowed two runs with eight strikeouts in seven innings for the second successive starts in a no-decision in a 3-2 loss to the D-backs. His slider was a good pitch for him, as he got six of his eight strikeouts with it.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox

Ricky Romero allowed three runs on five hits while striking out seven in his last start against Boston. It was the lefty's first victory against his division rivals this season, and the third of his career. He is 7-1 with a 2.71 ERA in his past 10 games.

John Lackey is confident he will be able to make his next start after suffering a contusion of his left calf on a comebacker in his last outing. Over his last two starts, Lackey has given up 13 hits over eight innings, going 0-2 with a 12.38 ERA.
