MLB Preview: Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Indians

The Major League Baseball season is finishing the last month of action, and there is still plenty of reason to watch and wager on MLB. It hasn't been the season expected of Fausto Carmona.

Considered the team's top starter coming into the year, Carmona has a 5.26 ERA and hasn't won a start since Aug. 17. He will look to finish strong against the White Sox on Tuesday, as the teams begin a four-game series.

Carmona gave up five earned runs in his last start and has given up at least five in three of his last five starts.

"Carmona was overthrowing everything," Indians manager Manny Acta said after Carmona's last start. "He walked five guys. He was throwing it side to side. He didn't have good sink on his fastball."

Carmona's last win actually came against the White Sox, but he is 1-2 with a 9.14 ERA against Chicago on the season.

Down the final stretch of the season, the White Sox are hoping to get solid starts from their pitchers. Tuesday's starter, Gavin Floyd, hasn't gone into the seventh inning in any of his three starts this month.

Since giving up a run in his first Major League appearance, rookie reliever Addison Reed has pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings, giving up three hits.

Although the Indians are mathematically alive for the Wild Card, both teams' postseason hopes are basically dashed. A strong finish could help go toward the 2012 season.

The end of the season is one of the best times to see young talent in the lineup, trying to make the team for next year. Rookie second baseman Jason Kipnis knows a spot on next year's big league squad isn't guaranteed. Although he was hitting .299 with six home runs entering Sunday, he knows a strong finish and good Spring Training will determine his role next year.

The White Sox are 9-5 against the Indians this season, including a 4-1 record in Cleveland. The White Sox ended a seven-game losing streak with a win Sunday and have lost nine of 12 games.

They will try and turn the losing streak around and end the season on a good note in the first game of a double header with the tribe.
