MLB Pitching Matchups For Friday September 23rd
MLB Pitching Matchups For Friday September 23rd

Pitching matchups are the cornerstone to previewing a baseball game. If you are going to successfully handicap a baseball game, it all starts with the starting pitching. That sets the odds and gives the edge to one team or another.

The top rated online sports book to check out odds and bet on baseball is Bet Phoenix. Open an account and bet on baseball as the season ends all the way up and including the World Series.

Here is a look at some of the top pitching matchups for Friday

Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves

Tim Hudson changed the position of his heel on the pitching rubber before his last start, and it helped the righty shut out the Mets over eight strong innings. He had been 1-3 with a 5.06 ERA in four starts before making the adjustment.

The Nationals' ace is still searching for his first victory this season, but Stephen Strasburg's last outing was his best since returning to the Majors. He allowed one run on four hits over six innings against the Marlins on September 17.

San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

Eric Surkamp will get the nod for the visiting Giants in this crucial series. In what figures to be a crucial start against the D-backs, the rookie left-hander will aim to reduce his walk total after issuing six free passes over 4 2/3 innings against the Rockies on Saturday.

Josh Collmenter allowed the Padres a cheap run on two bloop singles sandwiched around a hit batsman. He also gave up two solo home runs over the seven innings at PETCO Park, one off a changeup to former D-backs second baseman Orlando Hudson.

Seattle Mariners vs. Texas Rangers

Young Anthony Vasquez will get the start for the Mariners. The rookie left-hander lasted just three-plus innings in his last start -- also against the Rangers -- on Saturday in Seattle while giving up five runs on seven hits, including three solo homers. He's lost four straight since winning his debut.

Matt Harrison has won three straight, including a 3-0 win over the Mariners on Sunday. He pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings. Harrison is 5-1 with a 2.48 ERA in eight starts and four relief appearances against the Mariners.
