Texas Rangers Attempt to get closer to AL West Title Against Oakland
Texas Rangers Attempt to get closer to AL West Title Against Oakland

The Texas Rangers are ready to make another run for the World Series, but first they have to clinch the division. The way the Texas Rangers have been mashing the ball this month, they may have their second straight AL West title wrapped up before a regular season-ending series against their closest pursuers.

Texas looks for its eighth win in nine games and to reduce its magic number from four Wednesday night against the Oakland Athletics. The MLB Odds for this game and all of the other great baseball betting matchups can be found at BetPhoenix.

The Rangers scored six runs over the first three innings Tuesday en route to a 7-2 series-opening win. Texas (89-65) stayed five games ahead of the Los Angeles Angels, who defeated Toronto earlier in the night.

Texas and Los Angeles will meet for three games starting Monday night in Anaheim, but the title could belong to the Rangers before then.

Beltre, who missed five weeks with a hamstring injury, is hitting .357 with eight homers and 21 RBIs in 17 games since coming off the disabled list Sept. 1. His 28 homers are tied with Nelson Cruz for second on the team - one behind Ian Kinsler.

David Murphy is hitting .371 in September and Mike Napoli has been even hotter, batting .478 in 12 games this month. Murphy and Napoli each have four homers and 12 RBIs in September.

The Rangers on Wednesday will send out C.J. Wilson (16-7, 2.97 ERA), who looks to join Kenny Rogers as the only left-handers in franchise history to win 17 games in a season.

Wilson is coming off a 4-0 loss Friday to last-place Seattle in which he allowed one earned run with eight strikeouts in 6 1-3 innings. He is 6-2 with a 1.83 ERA over his last eight starts, including a pair of wins over the Athletics in which he yielded one run and nine hits in 14 innings.

The A’s Hideki Matsui - 1 for 19 in his last five games - is 2 for 15 with six strikeouts in his career against Wilson.

Brandon McCarthy (9-8, 3.35) will try to continue his second-half surge at home for Oakland.

The right-hander is 6-1 with a 3.22 ERA in seven starts at O.co Coliseum since July 15. Over his last three home games, McCarthy has surrendered five runs in 22 innings, striking out 21 and walking just four.

The season is winding down and the Rangers look to make their move to the post season now.
