D-Wade Says Heat Doubters Serve As MotivationThere’s been plenty of media and public condemnation of the Miami Heat in the wake of their big free agent signings of LeBron James and Chris Bosh. Some have suggested that there’s no way that the big egos involved can peacefully co-exist and form a cohesive team unit. There are others who argue that with so much money allocated to the ‘Big Three’ there’s no room in the budget for a supporting cast. That’s fine with Dwyane Wade, who says that the ‘doubters’ fuel his motivation and competitive fire.

NBA Legends Jordan And Barkley React To Lebron’s Miami MoveAs arguably the greatest player in NBA history and winner of six championships, Michael Jordan’s opinion still carries a lot of weight. When asked recently about LeBron James’ much ballyhooed free agent signing with the Miami Heat, Jordan didn’t mince words suggesting that both the decision and much of the ‘drama’ that accompanied it was emblematic of a new—and ultimately less competitive—era of NBA players.

Golden State Warriors To Be Sold For $450 MillionThe Golden State Warriors have been one of the NBA’s worst teams in recent years, but they did set an off the court record this week. On Thursday, an agreement was reached to sell the team to Boston Celtics’ minority partner Joe Lacob and Mandalay Entertainment CEO Peter Guber for $450 million (US). That is the highest price ever paid for an NBA team, eclipsing the $401 million that Robert Sarver paid for the Phoenix Suns in 2005. The sale must now be approved three-quarters of the NBA Board of Governors, and Lacob must unload his interest in the Celtics.

Stern also indicated that Gilbert should stay mum about what transpired unless he wanted to receive another hit to his wallet.

College Basketball Coaching Legend John Wooden Dies At Age 99Legendary college basketball coach John Wooden, who transformed UCLA into one of the greatest dynasties in sports history, died this weekend at the age of 99. Known as ‘The Wizard of Westwood’ (a reference to the Westwood area of Los Angeles where the UCLA campus is located), Wooden led UCLA to 10 NCAA championships including an unprecedented 7 straight between 1967 and 1973. That streak is unlikely to ever be equaled—since UCLA’s run no other team has won more than two consecutive NCAA championships.
