The Lakers are in a funk and losing games in an unorthodox way for the defending champions. They are getting crushed by the opposition. The Lakers have fallen flat in very big games lately losing badly to the Miami heat and the San Antonio Spurs. It got so bad that even superstar Kobe Bryant started to unravel. Bryant started attracting technical fouls out of frustration and even an ejection. He went back and forth with James in a heated discussion that was later dismissed by the superstar and in the latest move to right the ship he threw the entire team under the bus. These Los Angeles Lakers were too complacent, he said. They didn’t work hard enough. He vowed to kick them in practice. Toughen them until they’d awoken from their winter slumber. Yet nothing seems to have work. The Lakers are hoping the New Year will bring in some wins for the defending champs. The first team they will face in the New Year is the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies are belo .500 on the season and could not end the month of December with a winning record, but they always play much better basketball when they face the Lakers. Rudy Gay is the Grizzlies best player and likes to clamp down on defense to a [point where he had ten steals in a two game stretch. Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins is preaching a better defensive effort and it is resulting in steals, deflections and most importantly wins. They are catching the Lakers at the right time and if the Grizzlies continue to play great defense the Lakers could get another loss to start off the New Year.
