The Pittsburgh Panthers Battle The Villanova Wildcats in a Big East Throw-down
The Pittsburgh Panthers Battle The Villanova Wildcats in a Big East Throw-downThe Big East is seemingly up for grabs as different teams have risen to the top only to fall to the wayside during the year. The Pittsburgh Panthers will try to establish themselves as the best in the Big East when they play the Villanova Wildcats.

BetPhoenix is the best online sportsbook to wager on college basketball and they have the latest odds on this and all other games on the schedule.

The Wildcats are off one of the toughest losses of the season as they dropped a one point game to Rutgers. The Wildcats managed to lose a game in which they shot 55.8 percent (24-of-43) and 50 percent from the perimeter (8-of-16). Villanova allowed a 23-9 run in the final four minutes and a four point play to occur with 0.8 seconds to go. They lost on a four point play which is unheard of in college hoops. Villanova, the ninth-best free throw shooting team in Division I as of Feb. 8, only shot 20 for 27 from the free throw line, which with two crucial turnovers late in the game, proved to be too much.

Villanova returns home for what could be the Big East’s game of the week. Villanova will have its hands full facing the 6th best scorer in the Big East in Ashton Gibbs. He was averaging 16.3 points per game entering the week and had 49 in his last two games through Feb. 5. He had been deadly from the perimeter shooting 46.3 percent this season and 9-of-14 in his last two. Look for Ben Wanamaker to assist much of the scoring for Pitt, as he was fourth in the Big East with 5.2 assists per game through Feb. 5. On defense, look for the Panthers to have success with rebounding due in large part to Gary McGhee, who was the Big East’s fourth best rebounder with 8.3 rebounds per game entering the week and had 67 in his last 6 games (11.2 rebounds per game in those six) through Feb. 5. Pittsburgh was undefeated on the road this season entering the week.

The Panthers are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following a win, 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall and 6-2 ATS in their last eight against the Big East.

The Wildcats are 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record, 1-4 ATS in the last five against the Big East and 1-4 ATS in the last five overall.
