Colorado has kept games close by shooting great from the free throw line. Free-throw shooting has been one team strength all season as the Buffaloes lead the Big 12 with a .787 percentage through Feb. 12. In a 58-56 win over Kansas State on Feb. 12, the Buffs made 18 of 22 free throws, while the Wildcats went 18 of 31. Most critical, perhaps were two made after an intentional foul was called against the Wildcats’ Curtis Kelly for throwing an elbow. Colorado guard Alec Burks was assessed the same foul a few minutes later, but Kansas State failed to convert the free throws. This is sort of a reunion game for the Colorado head coach Tad Boyle.

For Boyle, the visit to Allen Fieldhouse will be nostalgic after playing for both Ted Owens and Larry Brown as a former Jayhawk captain. Kansas is a tough matchup as long as the Morris twins, Marcus and Markieff, are active inside while also drifting to the perimeter to can 3-pointers. Guarding the arc can be problematic, too, as the Jayhawks have begun to find bombers other than Tyrel Reed The Buff’s may be forced to extend their lineup.

Colorado might extend its rotation after coach Tad Boyle was forced to turn to his bench in the physical win against Kansas State on Feb. 12. C Ben Mills, a 7-footer, provided a key block, while G Shannon Sharpe played his best Big 12 game with eight points over 21 minutes. Two Buffs fouled out and two others finished with four fouls, prompting Boyle to also use Javon Coney and Trey Eckloff.

Kansas will be hungry for a win against Colorado to get back on the winning track.
