NBA East Heavyweights Collide As Bulls Take On Heat
NBA East Heavyweights Collide As Bulls Take On HeatA pair of NBA Eastern Conference Championship contenders face off on Sunday as the Miami Heat host the Chicago Bulls. LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh and the rest of the Heat have been playing very well of late but have been unable to catch the Boston Celtics atop the Eastern Conference standings. They’ve now got to worry about being caught by the Chicago Bulls for second place—with the East’s best home court record Derek Rose, Carlos Boozer and the Bulls have cut Miami’s lead down to a game and a half.

The Miami Heat have been a ‘marked team’ ever since they acquired LeBron James via free agency this summer. After a less than impressive start to the season the Heat have started to live up to their championship aspirations and are pulling away from the pack in the Southeast Division. This success, however, hasn’t translated into a windfall for their ‘financial backers’ and Miami is a breakeven team in most relevant pointspread categories. They’ve been an especially bad investment at home where they’re just 10-17 against the spread heading into Thursday night’s game against the Orlando Magic. They’re also just 12-12 SU/10-12-2 ATS against opponents with winning records through March 3rd.

Chicago, meanwhile, has been a big moneymaker for NBA basketball betting enthusiasts. As of March 3rd they’ve got a 35-23-1 record against the pointspread. The Bulls do have their weaknesses—despite their 26-4 SU record at the United Center they’re right around .500 on the road with a 15-14 record. They have given Miami fits this season, winning both previous meetings between the teams. The Bulls recently got defensive and rebounding powerhouse Joakim Noah back in the lineup after missing 30 games due to injury.

Neither team catches a break from the schedule heading into Sunday’s matchup—Miami is coming off games against San Antonio and divisional rival Orlando, while Chicago is off of games against Atlanta and Orlando. The Heat and Bulls won’t be playing in a ‘back to back’ situation, however, with both teams idle on Saturday before this early (1:00 PM Eastern) tip off on Sunday. The game will be televised nationally on ABC TV in the United States.

There’s a lot to like about the Bulls here—Miami hasn’t fared particularly well in ‘revenge’ situations this season and heading into Thursday’s tilt against the Magic the Heat have gone 2-7 SU/ATS in their last 9 meetings against opponents with winning records. That notwithstanding, this looks like a ‘statement’ spot for the Heat and we expect them to get the win and cover over a Chicago Bulls team that has yet to distinguish themselves on the road this season.
