The Toronto Raptors And the New Jersey Nets finish an Overseas Set

The Nets added Deron Williams before the trade deadline and he will be a major cog in the nets, for at least this year. A major question for the Nets is whether Williams will stay beyond next season, after which he can opt out. But the Nets say they are confident of keeping Williams, and coach Avery Johnson stresses enjoying the here and now. For now, Williams sound like a guy who wants to stay put. For starters, there is owner Mikhail Prokhorov.

One thing Deron Williams needs is one thing the Nets are having a hard time giving him: rest for a sore right wrist that was a pre-existing condition before his trade. And now he has a bruised left hand. Coach Avery Johnson, admitting "concern," said Williams might not even practice in England, before the second game with the Raptors.

Consider that since the Nets traded for Williams on Feb. 22, they have had only two shootaround sessions with him and no practices. Even if they could practice, Williams' wrist, which he originally injured in January with the Jazz, makes his participation iffy.

The Nets are 17-35 ATS in their last 52 against the Eastern Conference and 18-39-1 ATS in their last 58 games against a team with a losing record. Until Williams is healthy the Nets will have problems winning ballgames.
