The Denver Nuggets face the San Antonio Spurs with thoughts of capturing a Northwest Division title
The Denver Nuggets face the San Antonio Spurs with thoughts of capturing a Northwest Division titleThe San Antonio Spurs are going in to the playoffs and may put it into cruise control, trying to rest their players for the long post season. The Nuggets don’t have the luxury of resting as they still have an outside shot at the Northwest Division title.

It's still a longshot. But when Oklahoma City surprisingly lost at home Sunday to Toronto, it at least gave the Nuggets a little more hope in catching the Thunder for the Northwest Division title.

After their 123-90 win Monday over Toronto, the Nuggets (42-29) were four games behind Oklahoma City (45-24) with two games in hand.

The season series is tied 1-1. The Nuggets would win the tiebreaker if they beat the Thunder on April 5 at home and April 8 at Oklahoma City.

The Nuggets were the No. 5 seed in the West through Monday, putting them in line to open the playoffs on the road against No. 4 Oklahoma City. But Karl said more important than seeding is how the Nuggets are playing when the postseason begins. It all starts with the game against the Spurs.

The Nuggets will face the Spurs without Tim Duncan in the lineup. Forward Tim Duncan played just four minutes in his last outing before going down holding his left ankle. He did not return, and X-rays showed no structural damage.

San Antonio opens a road trip in Portland on Wednesday, and Duncan likely will be in street clothes. The early prognosis is Duncan could miss a couple of weeks. The 14-year veteran and perennial All-Star had taken Saturday's game, the second of a back-to-back, off for the extra rest. It was the first game he had missed all season.

The Spurs are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a win and the Nuggets are 6-0 ATS in their last six home games.

The Nuggets get an important win over a short-handed Spurs team.
