The Streaking Sacramento Kings Face the Lifeless Phoenix SunsThe NIT Final Four gets underway Tuesday night as the Wichita State Shockers battle against the Washington State Cougars in Madison Square Garden.

Washington State, which takes on Wichita State on Tuesday, March 29 in New York City, completed a tumultuous week by edging Northwestern 69-66 in overtime at Pullman, Wash., in the NIT quarterfinals.

The Cougars won despite two missed free throws by Abe Lodwick with the score tied and 0.2 seconds left in regulation. And they won despite the latest bonehead off-the-court decision by one of their players.

Junior forward DeAngelo Casto, by far the club’s best and most physical inside player, was cited on March 22 for misdemeanor possession of marijuana—the third WSU starter to face the exact same run-in with police.

Wichita State (27-8) beat Nebraska, Virginia Tech and College of Charleston to reach New York. The Shockers won’t be an easy scout for the Cougars because they don’t rely heavily on any one player, but are extraordinarily balanced. Eight different players average between 5.9 and 11.4 points. Senior J.T. Durley, a 6-8, 236-pound F/C, leads the club at 11.4 points and 5.1 rebounds. He has scored double digits 25 times, but never has reached 20 points. Likewise, 6-4 junior G David Kyles (9.6 ppg, 74 3-pointers) has 17 double-digit games and only two 20-point efforts, and 6-5 junior G Toure Murry (9.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg) has 18 double-figure games and only one 20-point effort. No one on the team has scored more than 20 points.

The Cougars have their hands full in this game and they are just 9-23-1 ATS in their last 33 games as an underdog of 0.5-6.5. The Shockers take down the Cougars and advance to the championship game.
