VCU vs. Butler in the NCAA Tournament Final Four
VCU vs. Butler in the NCAA Tournament Final FourThe 2011 NCAA tournament has been one of the most exciting tournaments in many years and the first ever tournament to not have a No. 1 seed or a No. 2 seed in the Final Four. Two of the reasons for that outcome have been the excellent play of the VCU Rams and the Butler Bulldogs.

The best online sportsbook to bet on the final four and the national championship game is BetPhoenix. This top rated online sportsbook has all of the wagering opportunities for college basketball and the Final Four.

Butler is 8-2 in its last 10 games against nationally ranked opponents. Junior guard Shelvin Mack is averaging 21.3 points per game in the tournament, but hasn’t been particularly sharp (14-for-40) from 3-point distance. Senior forward Matt Howard has led the team in rebounding in 24 games this season, including 12 boards against Wisconsin in the Sweet 16. Senior guard Shawn Vanzant has turned the ball over just 37 times in 36 games this season. Junior guard Ronald Nored is a terrific on-the-ball defender, but doesn’t provide much offense. In four of the last five games, he has gone without a field goal. Sophomore center Andrew Smith is shooting 62.1 percent from the field and is second on the team in rebounding.

When VCU is at its best it is playing furious defense, pressing as the ball comes up the court and trying to wear down an opponent. It is a team with quickness and a great on-ball defender in PG Joey Rodriguez. The Rams shot lights out in the first five games of the NCAA Tournament because they have passed so well, setting up easy baskets. F Brandon Rozzell and F Jamie Skeen have risen to great heights, Skeen scoring 26 with 10 rebounds in the stunning upset of Kansas. F Bradford Burgess had his career game against Purdue with 26 points and 10 rebounds. They are best when the scoring is spread out with Burgess, Skeen, Rozzell and Rodriguez hitting double figures. They also have a great defender in G Ed Nixon, whom along with Rozzell have been dubbed the “Energy Brothers” for their tireless defensive energy.

The Rams are 9-0 ATS in their last nine NCAA Tournament games as an underdog and they continue their improbable run in the tournament as they advance to the Finals.
