The Utah Jazz Go Up Against the Portland Blazers With Confidence
The Utah Jazz Go Up Against the Portland Blazers With Confidence The Utah Jazz are not going to the playoffs, but they are still playing hard as evident by the victory over the Lakers. Now they head to Portland to take on the Blazers brimming with confidence.

The Jazz's two-game trip didn't exactly go perfectly for 2010 lottery pick Gordon Hayward. On Monday night, Hayward sat alone in his Los Angeles-area hotel room and watched on TV as his former Butler Bulldogs performed horrifically in an NCAA national-championship game loss to UConn.

On the floor, however, the trip turned into a breakout one for the Jazz swingman. On Sunday, the star of last year's Butler Final Four team scored a then-career-high 19 points and shot 8-for-14 from the field while logging 41 minutes at Sacramento. On Tuesday, he topped that high, scoring 22 points and shooting 9-for-14 as the Jazz unexpectedly beat the Los Angeles Lakers.

It's the sort of showing Hayward can only hope continues when Utah plays Thursday against Portland -- the Jazz's lone home game amid a stretch with four of five on the road. But it wasn't just Hayward's breakout scoring -- he had been averaging just 4.5 points before Tuesday -- that impressed in L.A. It was also his effort while frequently matched up against Kobe Bryant, who at times seemed flustered by the Utah rookie.

The Jazz are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 home games and the Blazers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a loss. The Jazz come out flat after beating the Lakers and lose to the Blazers.
