The Chicago Bulls start their quest for the cup against the Indiana Pacers
The Chicago Bulls start their quest for the cup against the Indiana PacersThe Chicago Bulls are the best team in the Eastern Conference and are favorites to win the NBA title. So it comes as no surprise that they are double digit favorites in the first game of the series.

The Bulls defied all expectations to finish with the NBA's best record at 62-20, but it changes the playoff outlook significantly.

The past two years in the playoffs, the Bulls were considered a scrappy underdog against Boston and Cleveland. This time, they're the No. 1 seed in the East and will be expected to win a couple of series at the very least.

There's no reason to put too much stock into the Bulls' lack of postseason success. Rose and center Joakim Noah are the only players still on the roster who played against both the Celtics and Cavaliers. There are eight newcomers among the top 12 players in the rotation.

The first-round opponent is No. 8 seed Indiana. The series will open on Saturday afternoon at the United Center, followed by Game 2 on Monday before the scene shifts to Indianapolis.

The Bulls went 3-1 against the Pacers this season, with the lone loss coming in overtime 115-108 at Conseco Fieldhouse on March 18. That was a night when the Bulls were playing the second leg of back-to-back games against a rested Indiana squad.

The Bulls trailed by 20 points in the third quarter and by 15 with eight minutes remaining. Rose tied the game by hitting 3 free throws with 1.2 seconds left, but the Bulls had nothing left for overtime. Rose finished with 42 points in that game, while second-year forward Tyler Hansbrough scored 29 for Indiana.

The Pacers like to fire three-pointers, which can make things dangerous. In the three Bulls victories in the series, Indiana never scored more than 89 points. Indiana will keep it close than most people think.
