Denver Nuggets and the Oklahoma City Thunder will be worth watching
Denver Nuggets and the Oklahoma City Thunder will be worth watchingSince the Oklahoma City Thunder acquired Kendrick Perkins, they have been considered a dark horse in the western conference playoffs. The Denver Nuggets have been dismissed as contenders, but if they could win game one that could change a few things.

Nuggets coach George Karl believes all his injured players should be ready for Game 1 of the playoffs this weekend against Oklahoma City.

The Nuggets have six players who have missed at least one game in the past week due to injury: guard Arron Afflalo (strained left hamstring), center Chris Andersen (sprained right ankle), guard Wilson Chandler (sprained left ankle), forward Danilo Gallinari (sprained right ankle), center Timofey Mozgov (left knee and ankle sprains) and center Nene (left adductor strain).

"I think the goal right now is to get everybody ready and I think that'll probably happen," said Karl, whose team concluded the regular season with a 107-103 loss at Utah on Wednesday in a game that did not affect the Nuggets being the No. 5 seed for the Western Conference playoffs.

But some of those players might not be 100 percent when the playoffs start. They include starters Afflalo, who aggravated his injury Monday against Golden State, and Nene, who was hurt against the Warriors. Neither played at Utah.

In Wednesday's game, the Nuggets lost guard Ty Lawson for the game due to a sprained left ankle. But Karl said he's "confident" Lawson will be ready for Game 1 of the playoffs. With all of the nagging injuries the Nuggets have had at the end of the season, that didn't fully allow Karl to get his rotations in order for the playoffs.

Shortly after Wednesday's game, the Nuggets learned the Thunder would be the No. 4 seed in the West and would be their first-round playoff foe. They entered the night knowing they most likely would play Oklahoma City but with an outside chance they could face Dallas.

The Nuggets will provide problems for the Thunder with their endless depth and the tenacity to prove that they are worthy of being considered a contender.
