The San Antonio Spurs get surprised against the Memphis Grizzlies
The San Antonio Spurs get surprised against the Memphis GrizzliesThe San Antonio Spurs are heavy favorites to beat the Memphis Grizzlies and advance to the next round. With nagging injuries and age sneaking up, the Spurs will have to approach this game very carefully.

Spurs guard Manu Ginobili is listed as doubtful for Sunday's opening game of the playoff series against Memphis after spraining his right elbow in the final regular-season game. Ginobili had an MRI exam Thursday that confirmed that his elbow, which was hyperextended in the first period of Wednesday's loss to Phoenix, was sprained.

The Spurs clinched the No. 1 seed in the West last week, and coach Gregg Popovich sat his key players Tuesday against the Lakers. However, he played them against the Suns to keep them sharp for the playoffs. Ginobili, 33, averaged 17.4 points this season.

The Spurs are done with the formalities. The top seed in the Western Conference heads into the playoffs with a two-game losing streak, but it mattered little.

San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich focused on health and rest in the final two meaningless games, with the Spurs' standing secure. The postseason opens with Memphis in a best-of-seven series on San Antonio's home court.

The Spurs and No. 8 Grizzlies split four games during the season. Word was that Memphis wanted San Antonio because it feels it has a matchup advantage down low with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph.

The Grizzlies are not afraid to take on the Spurs and believe they have a distinct advantage. They have played well against the Spurs this year and they get the first round upset.
