Pau Gasol and the Lakers Look to stand strong against the New Orleans Hornets
Pau Gasol and the Lakers Look to stand strong against the New Orleans HornetsThe LA Lakers were double digits favorite in game one against the Hornets and lost outright in a stunning first round upset. Now Kobe Bryant will look to get his team motivated to win in game two and avoid a big hole, going back to New Orleans.

Coach Monty Williams said the Hornets couldn't beat the Lakers without doing a better job against 7-footers Paul Gasol and Andrew Bynum than they did in losing all four regular-season games against L.A. by an average of 10.8 points. Gasol averaged 22.3 points and 13 rebounds and made 70.5 percent of his shots against New Orleans. Williams called those numbers "unacceptable." Bynum averaged 15.0 points and six rebounds and made 64 percent of his shots. In Game 1, Gasol shot 2-for-9 and had eight points and six rebounds. Bynum shot 4-for-7and had 13 points and nine rebounds.

Chris Paul had his best game of the season on the heels of a shaky finish to the regular season. Paul, who averaged 15.9 points and 9.8 assists during the regular season, had averaged 12.3 and 9.4 in the 10 regular-season games since F David West was lost to a season-ending knee injury. Paul's field goal percentage was 46.3 for the season, but 41.5 in the last 10; his three-point percentage was 38.8 during the season but 20.0 the last 10 games. He averaged nearly 40 percent fewer three-point attempts since West's injury than he had before it.

The Hornets tied the NBA record for fewest turnovers in a playoff game when they committed just three in their 109-100 victory against the Lakers in Game 1 on Sunday in Staples Center. They will be hard pressed to duplicate those numbers and look for an inspired effort by the Lakers.

Gasol gets tough and the Lakers win game two by double digits.
