| Blazers Return To Rose Garden Looking To Even Series Against Mavs |
The Blazers’ players are likely to bring even more intensity to this contest—they’re very upset after a hard pick set by J.J. Barea on the much smaller Patty Mills with just :12 seconds remaining. It was a legal play, but the Portland position is that coming with seconds remaining in a game that was already decided constituted a ‘cheap shot’. Here’s Mills’ recollection of the hit: "I didn't see it. I didn't know anyone was there, but I was wondering why Barea was pushing the ball hard up the court. But I found out why. He set it up [with Cardinal]. He set it up. "At that point in the game, I don't know ... I don't know if you do that when you are up that much." Blazers’ guard Wesley Matthews was more critical in his assessment of the play: "I know it's the playoffs and everything, but come on. With four seconds left in the game? But that's cool. I'm not going to forget it, that's for sure." Cardinal and Barea have maintained innocence, suggesting that it was just part of the game but it’ll just give the Blazers a bit more competitive fire. Not that they necessarily need it—one of the most impressive things about this Portland team is their tenacity. They’ve remained competitive this season through an onslaught of injuries that has sidelined most of their star players at some point or another. We like Portland to scrap out the outright win and send the series back to Dallas for Game 7, but the operative term there is ‘scrap’. Nothing has come easy for the Blazers this season and to their credit they’ve fought through the adversity, but that also makes them a team that it’s difficult to lay points with. This is especially true against a Mavs’ team that made a ton of money for bettors on the road this year going 27-16 ATS. Portland, meanwhile, was just 3-10 against the spread as a home favorite of -3’ to -6 points. The Blazers have won 5 of the last 8 against the Mavs at home, but Dallas has covered 5 of those 8 games. That’s how we see this game going as well—we like the Blazers to get the win but Dallas to get the pointspread cover.

One thing that the Portland Trailblazers have proven over the course of this season is that they don’t quit. That was evident in Game 4, when they overcame a 23 point second half deficit to nip Dallas 84-82 at the Rose Garden and facing elimination after losing Game 5 there’s every reason to expect a spirited effort from Portland in Game 6. The Blazers have been installed as a -4’ point home favorite in Game 6 with the total set at 182.
