After their first three losses of the season, there was still an air of optimism for this young Rams squad, considering those games were all on the road against solid competition. At the time, they boasted the leading scorer in the nation in Jamal Wilson, whose averages have dropped to 18 points, and were coming off one of the toughest opening three games in the nation. As it turns out, those early losses were a taste of what’s to come as they have now dropped seven of their first eight games, thanks in large part to their defense, or lack thereof. The Rams are allowing teams to score 78.2 points per game on 49% shooting.

Having faced one of the tougher schedules in the nation thus far, Seth Greenberg’s men have faulted in their last two outings and dropped to 5-3 on the season. The Hokies started the season winning their first three games, but since have dropped three of their last five. To be fair, the Hokies have faced Syracuse, Oklahoma State, St Bonaventure, Minnesota and Kansas State, with only two of those games being in at home. Virginia Tech is nothing special offensively, but defensively they are are rock solid as they are holding opponents to 59.9 points per game on 38% shooting, which both rank top 50 th in the nation.

It's hard to make a strong case for the Rams here, considering they have recent home losses to Brown and Maine. The Hokies on the other hand have only played the one true road game to date, which was a three point loss at Minnesota. Regardless of who wins this game it should still make for some very exciting basketball as both these teams take the floor.
