Magic – Celtics Game 3 Saturday May 22
Magic – Celtics Game 3 Saturday May 22On Tuesday, the Boston Celtics won their fifth straight playoff game, taking a 2-0 lead over the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Until the series started on Sunday, the Magic had gone 44 days without losing a game, and, with Tuesday’s 95-92 loss, they lost two straight games at home for the first time since Games 4 and 5 of the NBA Finals last June.

Who would have thought the Celtics could turn things around in such brilliant manner in the playoffs? They won three in a row to eliminate top-seed Cleveland, and now go back to Boston with a 2-0 advantage against second-seed Orlando.

After sweeping through the first two rounds of the playoffs, the Magic find themselves in a desperate situation, needing to win a game in Boston Saturday or Monday to keep the series alive.

“We’ve beaten them on their floor before, now we have to do it again,” said Rashard Lewis, who was held to 5 points in 41 minutes. “This year, overall, they have been a better team on the road than they have been at home. Hopefully they’ll be that way in the playoffs.”

Wishful thinking, or just plain desperation?

Dwight Howard scored a game-high 30 points for the Magic, but Boston took Lewis and Jameer Nelson out of the game.

“We’re doing with guts and pure grit,” said Kevin Garnett, who did most of the defensive work on Lewis. “We’re playing defense for 48 minutes.”

They did, and they took the second game in Orlando, despite Kendrick Perkins, Rasheed Wallace and Paul Pierce getting in serious foul trouble.

“t was a great game intensity-wise, a game of runs,” said Boston coach Doc Rivers. “They brought the fight to us in a lot of ways, and I thought we withstood the hits. That something we’ve got to keep doing…”

The Magic will have to find a way to overcome the Celtics tough defense to have a chance in Boston, and it might be even more difficult there than it was in Orlando.

“This series is not over,” said Howard. “I won’t stop believing that and I won’t let my teammates believe it. We’re going to keep fighting and we’re going to do it.”

Game 3 should be a close one, but I think that the Celtics have taken the measure of the Magic and they’ll win in their own building Saturday.
