American Idol's Final Five
Friday, 24 April 2009 06:00

American Idol's Final FiveJudges have said several times that this season's contestants are the strongest in the shows history. If you bet on American Idol, and have been watching you can't argue that claim, because each have immeasurable talent and have showcased it weekly, as they seem to be upping their performances each time hitting the stage.

Following last week's "Final Seven" show, the one where contestant Matt Giraud was saved from elimination, Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai was sent home in a mandatory double-elimination show due to the save made the previous week. It wasn't much of a shocker, as many handicapping the event expected them to be the duo sent packing.

At one point in the original field of 13, Lil had oddsmakers respect as the third betting choice installed at +350. Ultimately, it was a combination of bad song choices, drop-off in performances and simply being out classed that ended her stay.

American Idol is now down to its final five contestants, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen and Giraud. Any of the five could win it and the remainder of Season 8 is going to feature heated action, as it's time to go or go home.

California native Lambert is the one to beat as the hefty odds on favorite priced -290 to become the next Idol. Thus far, Lambert hasn't gone wrong. He's selecting all the right songs and nailing them vocally. Lambert has a big edge with a natural knack for turning any song into his unique own.

Milwaukee, Wisc., Church Music Director Gokey is listed with the second best odds at +450. As talented as Gokey is, he is not in the league with Lambert. But all it takes is a slip up or bad showing from the favorite, and Gokey could even the BetPhoenix

American Idol odds in a hurry.

Gokey is followed by Conway, Ark., resident Allen and teen Iraheta both priced at +750. Allen has been solid throughout the competition but just a step behind the two clear cut favorites, Lambert and Gokey.

The remaining female of the group, Iraheta, being the sole girl in the group figures to get a lot of female viewer's votes. The 16-year-old dynamo has consistently wowed the judges and she'll also gain significant votes from the teen viewing audience that makes up a large majority of the voting. She has a great voice and could surprise.

Giraud, at +4000 was saved by the judges, and somehow he survived the following week via votes cast by viewers. He's been around longer than many has expected, so it should come as no surprise if he's the next to go.

On Tuesday, the five finalists will perform the songs of the original Rat Pack, a group of legendary performers that included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. On Wednesday's Top 5 results show, Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks returns to the Idol stage to perform "Seven Mile Breakdown," the latest single from his album, "The Distance."
