| WBO SUPER-FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE Preview: Ricky Burns vs. Nicky Cook |

Ricky Burns may seem to be Britain's forgotten world champion but the unassuming Scot has his chance to shine as he makes his first defence south of the border against former world champion Nicky Cook. Burns' lifestyle seems a million miles away from the glitzy and glamorous lives that Britain's other world champions Amir Khan and Carl Froch lead. And you definitely won't have seen Burns buying a Bentley just days before a world title fight like David Haye did last month. Instead the shy Scot shuns the public limelight and continues to work part-time in his local sports store as he prepares his third defence of the WBO crown. However, if the Coatbridge-based fighter is to finally land a big unification fight in the super-featherweight division then he has to make people stand up and take notice – and what better way to do it than with a classy display against veteran Cook. The 31-year-old Englishman is also out to prove a point though as he looks to give his career one last injection of life before he goes off to a life in the sun for good. Cook held the WBO title before Roman Martinez, whom Burns defeated to become champion, relinquished him of the crown in 2009. The Essex man packed his bags and moved to Tenerife as he took a two-year break from the sport before overcoming little-known Youssef Al Hamidi in a six-round contest earlier this year. Cook plans to open up a bar in Tenerife after this fight but it seems unlikely that the WBO strap will have pride of place in the new establishment after such a lengthy absence from the ring. But the Englishman will give Burns his biggest test since Martinez as the Scot looks to emerge from the shadows and cement his place at the top table of boxing on the British scene. The Scotsman wants to put on a classy display but insists the most important factor is coming out with the WBO strap still wrapped around his waist. The fight is a big chance to shine but Burns realizes a loss could be catastrophic for his career prospects. He told Sky Sports: "You find when you go out looking for a knockout it never happens, so my attitude is that I just want to get in there and win by any means necessary. "Whether you look good or you look bad, so long as you come out and you've got that belt coming home with you in the car - that is the main thing." Burns also realizes that this fight in Liverpool against a well-known Englishman is the perfect opportunity to increase his popularity south of the border at last. "I knew when they said I was boxing in Liverpool that it was to try to raise my profile down south. Everybody in Scotland knows who I am but I am maybe not as well known in England. "This is a chance for me now to get my name out there, but sometimes when you look about like that, you are putting pressure on yourself to go out there and look good, and sometimes it doesn't happen. "If I go out there and just do what I have been doing in the gym, people are in for a good night's boxing." Strategy: Burns may look to put pressure on Cook early on and hope that his opponent isn't too sharp after his lack of activity over the last two years. The Scot will be wary though that Cook can hit hard and may just try to out-box his challenger. The 31-year-old admits the prospect of becoming a world champion again excites him and he is prepared for a long night against Burns. "It don't come any better than being a double world champion, it's great being a single world champion but to do it again is going to be great," explained Cook. "I am coming to an age where I am assured, where I am strong at the weight. I just can't see him being able to stay with the power of me. "I am expecting a long hard punishing fight, and I have been training in Tenerife in 95 per cent to 100 per cent humidity in the gyms to prepare for it." There has been hardly any needle between the two fighters in the build-up to the event, a refreshing change from all the thrash talk that is usually thrown around before world title bouts. Cook added: "Business is business. We're in it to do our job and all that trash talk won't win you a fight. The only way to win is to be a better fighter on the night in the ring, so what's the point of all the trash talk?" Strategy: Cook is prepared for a long night but owing to his lack of activity, he may look to get the fight over with as soon as possible. Burns has started slowly in the past, so the wily veteran will look to capitalise on that. Another great match-up and fantastic to see two British fighters scrap for a world title but believe Burns will have the edge and go for the Scot to pull out a late stoppage win. Burns comes up big with a huge victory. Boxing Prediction: Ricky Burns
