| Boxing preview: Victor Ortiz vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr |
Floyd Mayweather Jr is a huge -750 favorite in this fight. Victor Ortiz looks to upset the pound for pound great and undefeated super defense wizard. A win over Mayweather would catapult him into stardom and surely ensure that he'll be one of the most sought after opponents in the welterweight division. Nobody knows what the future holds for this young man though. What I do know is this, whether he wins or loses this fight against Mayweather, he'll be able to pick up another high profile fight after this against a quality and champion caliber opponent. Actually, I think the only way he can pull himself out of those kind of fights is if he out right quits in an embarrassing performance. I don't think the Victor who quit against Maidana is the same Victor that'll be fighting Saturday night and I fully expect him to fight with everything he has. The WBC Welterweight champion, Victor Ortiz, is in the fight of his life when he takes on the pound for pound best, arguably, Floyd Mayweather, JR. Victor is motivated, hungry, powerful, and he will be aggressive against the puzzling and defensive style of “Money,” on September 17th. The interest in this fight has grown as we have closed in on the showdown. HBO’s 24/7 reality show has done a great job of fanning the flame of public interest, bringing the viewer into the lives of both fighters. I have been wrong before, and my instincts haven’t always been correct, but I think Ortiz is going to give Floyd a great deal of problems. Throw out what will amount to 17 months of inactivity for Floyd come Sept. 17. Forget about the two flush shots from Shane Mosley that buckled his knees in his last fight. Disregard the overrated notion that Mayweather has a history of trouble with southpaws, having eaten inconsequential shots from Zab Judah and "Chop Chop" Corley years ago. This fight is a mismatch on paper and could be over before it starts. Or this could be an upset in the making. It would only make sense if Floyd’s mind is somewhere else at the start of this fight and that could be enough to distract him. For that reason alone this fight is worth watching on PPV this weekend.
