Marlon Sandro vs. Rafael Dias

Current King of Pancrase and Sengoku Featherweight Champion Marlon Sandro will try and rebound from his most recent loss when he meets former WEC veteran Rafael Dias in a Bellator 58 main card bout.

Sandro, 34, is a Brazil native who fights out of the Nova Uniao team. Sandro began competing in professional mixed martial arts in 2004 and won his first twelve bouts competing in regional promotions across Brazil and in Japan for Pancrase. In early 2009 Sandro signed with World Victory Road Sengoku and lost his first bout while competing in the Featherweight Grand Prix third round match-up against Michihiro Omigawa. Three bouts later he went on to win that Sengoku Featherweight Title with a KO victory over Masanori Kanehara. Sandro joined the Bellator roster this summer and won back to back bouts before losing via KO against Pat Curran at Bellator 48 this past August.

Dias, 32, is a Brazilian who now fights out of the American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida. Dias began competing in professional mixed martial arts in 2004 and won eleven of his first sixteen while competing in notable organizations such as Bodog Fight, International Fight League, and C3 Fights, among others. After a successful regional winning streak, Dias signed with the WEC but dropped three of his four bouts from November 2008 through August 2009. Dias hasn’t had much success elsewhere either losing back to back bouts since his WEC release. Overall he has dropped five of his last seven, although they all came to notable opponents like Rafaello Oliveira, Diego Nunes, and Danny Castillo.

Trevor Prangley vs. Hector Lombard

Former UFC veteran Trevor Prangley (23-8-1) will make his Bellator debut against current Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard (30-2-1, NC), who comes in riding a 24-fight unbeaten streak, at Bellator 58 in a non-title catchweight feature.

Prangley, 39, is a South African native who now fights out of San Jose, California at the American Kickboxing Academy. After finishing his NCAA Division I wrestling career, Prangley made his MMA debut in 2001 and went on to win eight of his first nine bouts competing in small organizations all across North America. Prangley earned a roster position in the UFC, however went only 2-2 from June 2004 through April 2006. After his 2006 release from the UFC, Prangley won eleven of his next twelve competing for reputable organizations like Bodog Fight, Strikeforce and Maximum FC. Prangley hasn’t had the same success recently losing three of his last four. He dropped a January 2011 Strikeforce bout against Roger Gracie and then followed that with a KO defeat against Tatsuya Mizuno in the DREAM Middleweight Grand Prix this past July.

Lombard, 33, is a Cuba native who has relocated to Florida where he fights out of the American Top Team. Lombard began his professional MMA career in 2004 and won 18 of his first 22 fighting across Australia and Japan. He joined Bellator in 2009 and won the organizations Middleweight Title at BFC 12 in June of that year. He has only had an opportunity to defend his belt once; however he has won all seven of his fights under the Bellator banner so far. In fact, Lombard’s most recent defeat came in 2006 at PRIDE Bushido 13 losing to Gegard Mousasi. In his most recent fight, Lombard defeated Jesse Taylor in Australia this past September. His most recent Bellator competition came at BFC 44 this past May winning via KO against Falinko Vitale.

Prediction – Lombard TKO

Eddie Alvarez vs. Michael Chandler

Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez (22-2) will get a tough opponent in his second title defense at Bellator 58 when he welcomes undefeated Tournament winner Michael Chandler (8-0) in the main event feature.

Alvarez, 27, is a Pennsylvania native who fights out of the Fight Factory in Philadelphia. Alvarez began competing on the professional circuit in 2003 and won twelve of his first thirteen for organizations such as Bodog Fight, Sho XC, GCM Cage Force, and Ring of Combat. Alvarez began competing in Japan for DREAM in 2008 and advanced to the Lightweight Grand Prix Final where he lost against Shinya Aoki via submission. Since his December 2008 loss to Aoki, Alvarez has won seven straight including six for the Bellator organization. Alvarez became the Bellator Champion at BFC 12 where he submitted Toby Imada. He has since defended his title once, in his most recent fight at BFC 39 this past April via decision over Pat Curran.

Chandler, 25, is a Missouri born mixed martial artist who now fights out of Las Vegas at Xtreme Couture. The former NCAA Division I wrestler made his professional debut in 2009 fighting only once on the Missouri regional scene before signing with Strikeforce in 2009. He won back to back bouts on the Strikeforce undercards before signing with Bellator in 2010. Chandler was victorious in back to back bouts before entering the Lightweight Tournament earlier this year. Chandler defeated Marcin Held in the quarterfinal round, Lloyd Woodard in the semifinal round, and Patricky Freire at BFC 44 this past May in the Tournament Finale.
