Tim Tebow Signs 5 Year Deal With Denver Broncos
Tim Tebow Signs 5 Year Deal With Denver BroncosFormer Florida Gators’ quarterback Tim Tebow is now officially a member of the Denver Broncos after signing a contract with the NFL club on Thursday evening. Tebow’s deal is for five-year, $11.25 million contract with $8.7 million guaranteed. The overall value of the contract is roughly $33 million, significantly more than last year’s #25 pick in the NFL draft. Tebow had missed the first three rookie workouts while his agent, Jimmy Sexton, and Broncos’ general manager Brian Xanders finalized the deal. He was in practice for the first time on Friday, with training camp officially beginning on Sunday.

Denver head coach Josh McDaniels said that the early practices for rookies were important and that it might take Tebow some time to get up to speed:

"It's just an opportunity to feel better about playing faster. And I think whether you're a rookie quarterback or an injured player, it makes sense to come in and try to start crawling before you walk and walking before you run -- because certainly none of them are going to hit the ground running because they're behind. Every day is a great opportunity."

McDaniels added that despite considerable speculation over how the team will use Tebow nothing will be decided until practices begin:

"Certainly, people have speculated about how we may or may not use him in those roles, but since we haven't really done any of it in pads, I haven't had the opportunity to evaluate what that may do for our team. There's going to be some things that he can obviously do that the other two can't in that regard. How much we do or don't do will depend on how productive we are at it."

He also commended Tebow’s legendary toughness:

"I think that's part of his demeanor. I think that is also part of what he brings to your football team. I think that may be a little unique in terms of the contact part of it."

McDaniels also had a response to suggestions from critics that Tebow was too small to be an NFL quarterback:

"What other peoples' expectations are of him or how much he'll play or contribute or compete to play early, I don't really know. I'm not that worried about it. I think if he's the best player at some point in some area, then he'll be able to affect the team."

Tebow has already paid dividends for the Broncos and the entire NFL in one area—his #15 jerseys have been the top seller on the NFL website since he was drafted back in April.
