| 2010 Preseason Game: Dallas Cowboys vs. San Diego Chargers |
The latest line posted by sportsbooks have the Chargers as a 3 point favorites with a total of 37 ½. The Chargers enter this game off an opening win against the Bears, but most of the news surrounding the Chargers is off the field. Earlier in the week the Chargers signed rookie running back Ryan Matthews to a five-year, $25.65 million contract, with just more than $15 million in guaranteed money. This is just one of the contract issues that the Chargers are dealing with. Wide Receiver Vincent Jackson is still a holdout as he tries to get a better contract, and San Diego’s best tackle, Marcus McNeill continues his holdout too. Shawne Merriman did show up to camp after his holdout and is ready to play. Their opponent on Saturday, the Dallas Cowboys, have their own share of problems off the field as the team has been hit with the injury bug. Tackle Marc Colombo underwent arthroscopic surgery Monday afternoon to remove five loose particles from his right knee, and will be out for this game and perhaps the entire preseason. The Cowboys will juggle players to fill the void left by Colombo and try to get their offense in gear. The offense has looked bad so far this preseason, and losing players like Colombo, and rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant, will not help it get better anytime soon. Quarterback Tony Romo is not worried about the offense and had this to say. "I think we're going to have a pretty good red-zone offense this year. I think we're going to have a good offense, period. It's going to be fun." Preseason NFL Pick The first team offense has been miserable for Dallas so far this preseason. Look for an extra emphasis to be placed on offense and putting up points in this game. The running game struggled to put up yards against the Raiders and after Jon Kitna, they are thin at quarterback. The Chargers looked sharp in the first game and have a great combination of running and passing. Phillip Rivers will play sparingly and Billy Volek will back him up. The Chargers defense looked dominating against the Bears as they sacked Chicago QB's six times with Antwan Applewhite getting two sacks to lead the way. The Cowboys are thin in the fourth quarter and have let games get away from them. This game will be no different as the Chargers pull away and win big in this game. Play on: Chargers -2.5 This primetime game will highlight two teams that could potentialy play in the Super bowl in 2010. Get the popcorn ready, this will be a good game! By: Matthew Regaw
