| 2010 Preseason Game: Tennessee Titans vs. Carolina Panthers |
The latest line posted by sportsbooks has the Panthers as three point favorites with a total of 36.5. The Titans enter this game on a short after stomping the Arizona Cardinals last Monday night. If they play as well against the Panthers the Titans will have little to worry about. The Titans looked impressive on both sides of the ball, moving well on offense and attacking on defense. Vince Young went nine of 13 for 128 yards and looked to regaining his regular season form and Chris Johnson ran the ball extremely well. The Panthers only hope they can execute as well on offense. With the departure of quarterback Jake Delhomme, this Carolina Panther team now belongs to Matt Moore. Moore looked fantastic last year near the end of the season and the Panthers added depth in the off season at the position by drafting Jimmy Claussen. That has not equaled success in the preseason. Although the Panthers played two defensive oriented teams in the Ravens and the jets, they have yet to score an offensive touchdown. Even worse not one of Carolina's four quarterbacks has completed 50 percent of their passes. Part of the problem is the lackluster protection the front line has provided as the Panthers have already allowed 11 sacks. Thankfully, the true heartbeat of the offense for this team is the running game. DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart form one of the best backfields in the league, but Stewart is yet to play in the preseason as he suffers from an Achilles injury. The Panthers will sit him again for this game, and try out other options. Preseason NFL Pick The Titans seem to be clicking in the preseason already. The offense was expected to do well, but what may be more surprising is how the defense has fared up to this point. The defense is aggressively attacking the quarterback and filling gaps to stop the run. That kind of intensity drives this team and smoothers the opposition. The Panthers are still concerned with fixing a defense that lost Julius Peppers a year ago. They are using the preseason to shore up the holes on defense and evaluate the young talent on the field. This Panthers, even at home, are just not in the same league as the Titans right now.
