Vikings Top Seahawks Despite Two Favre Interceptions
Vikings Top Seahawks Despite Two Favre InterceptionsBrett Favre would no doubt like to forget his first extended action of the preseason. ‘The Gunslinger’ threw two interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown, but the Minnesota Vikings’ reserves took up the slack in a 24-13 preseason victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle led 13-10 heading into the fourth quarter, but Minnesota outscored the Seahawks 14-0 in the final fifteen minutes thanks to touchdown drives from backup quarterbacks Sage Rosenfels and Joe Webb. Seattle didn’t score an offensive touchdown in the game, getting their 13 points from Earl Thomas’ return of a Favre interception and a pair of Olindo Mare field goals.

NFL football betting enthusiasts that backed the Seahawks as -4’ point home favorites cashed their tickets with the victory. Minnesota had opened a -7’ choice in the game, but action on the underdog Seahawks resulted in the big line movement. The 37 combined points managed to stay UNDER the posted total of 39. The Vikings improved to 2-1 straight up and against the spread in the NFL preseason. Seattle dropped to 1-2 SU and 0-3 against the pointspread in the exhibition campaign.

Minnesota is trying to find some continuity in the offensive line and deal with depth issues at wide receiver. Favre clearly wasn’t happy with the performance of his offense:

"We've got to find out in a short period of time who can make some plays in the passing game.”

The Vikings signed veteran free agent Javon Walker and acquired Greg Camarillo in a trade with Miami to give the team some depth at wide receiver following the loss of Pro Bowler Sidney Rice, who’ll miss at least half the season following hip surgery. Both new additions were solid in their Vikings debut—Camarillo had four catches for 47 yards and Walker caught a 25 yard TD pass from Sage Rosenfels in the fourth quarter. After the game, Camarillo hoped his performance made an impression on his Vikings’ teammates and fans:

"I don't even know how many people know my name, but it doesn't hurt to grab a couple balls and get a couple first downs. That's how you get trust from your teammates. Hopefully they'll start believing in me."

The highlight for the Seahawks was rookie safety Earl Thomas’ 86 yard interception return for a touchdown. Thomas said of his big play:

"I was just thinking gas. Just put my head back. It was like Pop Warner when you throw your head back and run."

Seattle will conclude their preseason schedule against the Raiders at Oakland next Thursday, while Minnesota hosts the Denver Broncos. The Seahawks will host the San Francisco 49ers in their regular season opener, with Seattle a +2’ home underdog and the total set at 38. The Vikings open their slate on Thursday, September 9th at New Orleans. Minnesota is a +4’ point road favorite with the total set at 49.
