| Mcnabb Will Start Redskins Opener Against Dallas |
McNabb sprained his ankle in the Redskins’ second preseason game, and didn’t practice or play during the rest of the exhibition season. A week or so ago, Shanahan publicly mused that his quarterback might not be ready for the regular season opener against the Cowboys. While some suggested that Shanahan was ‘sandbagging’, he insisted his concern was legitimate. McNabb at the time was more low key: "I really don't know for sure. That's why it's day by day. We'll see how it goes." On Monday, McNabb was a guest on a Washington area sports radio show and emphatically stated that he’d be starting on Sunday despite the ankle not being at 100%: "Yes, I will be starting this weekend. And I look forward to it. "Is my ankle 100 percent? No. ... But it's getting better." McNabb was more expansive on the subject of defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. The Redskins signed Haynesworth to a $100 million contract before the 2009 season which included $41 million in guaranteed money. Haynesworth will earn a guaranteed $3.6 million in 2010 and $5.4 million in 2011 in addition to $31 million of salary and signing bonus he’s already collected. He reported to camp in horrible shape, and has clashed with management over his conditioning and commitment. There’s a very strong indication that the Redskins are looking to move Haynesworth, but McNabb made a strong case for keeping him on the team: "Albert is a guy that's one of our brothers in the locker room, and we want to protect him and make sure that he's taken care of and he's fine. Albert is a guy who understands now, he understands that, 'Hey, I've got to put the time and effort in to get an opportunity to show what I can do.' And he knows what he can do. "We can't win without Albert. He plays a major part on our defense, and everyone knows that. It's just unfortunate what's been going on and how everything has transpired, but that's the game of football, and I think he'll handle it the right way. ... I think he'll be here. I hope he'll be here. ... As a player, you would want Albert to be here." Washington is a +3’ point NFL betting underdog for their opening game at home against Dallas on Sunday night, with the total set at 40’.

The Washington Redskins are a team in transition, as new coach Mike Shanahan enters his first year at the helm. Making his task even more difficult, the Skins open the 2010 NFL season with a tough game against their hated rivals the Dallas Cowboys. They’ve also been dealing with a variety of headaches caused by defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, whom the team has a huge financial investment in which they’re concerned isn’t justified due to his lack of focus and conditioning. Despite all of this, the team did get a welcome bit of good news—newly acquired starting quarterback Donovan McNabb has confirmed that he’ll be ready to go in the season opener.
