The Kentucky Wildcats lost the first game of the season as they were outplayed by Louisvills. The Kentucky offense has looked out of synch all season and while they lost the core of their unit at the skill positions from last season, they are already at the point this season where things should be coming together. Morgan Newton is starting to look like he may not be the answer t QB and while his 27 of 41 passing performance against Louisville was an improvement, the 255 yards wasn’t enough. Newton hasn’t been helped by the running game as Josh Clemons ran for just 28 yards in his last game but most of that is because of the lack of respect defenses are showing for the pass.

La’Rod King has 14 receptions thus far this year and E.J. Foelds has seven but this doesn’t have the look of a passing game that is going to thrive as the Cats move into the SEC portion of their schedule. The UK defense has six interceptions thus far including two by Winston Guy and Guy also has 30 tackles, second on the team as Danny Trevathan has 38. While Kentucky seems to always have a good defense, they are seeing more pressure than normal as their offense doesn’t get the job done.

The Will Muschamp heading coaching decision looked like a good one as the Gators have yet to lose.

QB John Brantley may never be the player he was touted to be when he was recruited but in Charlie Weis’ system he at least appears to be more productive and UF can only hope that as the season goes on he will only improve. Brantley has thrown for 637 yards but just three touchdowns for the first three games as the Gators have stuck with their potent ground game. Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps have to be two of the quickest backs in the country and a home run threat every time they touch the ball. Rainey has already rushed for 306 yards and caught passes for another 214.

The Florida Gators are getting plenty of looks as they enter this week and they need to stay focused when they take on the lower tier teams in the league like Kentucky. Failing to do that could cost them in a game like this.
