This week the Thursday night college football game on ESPN is being taken over by the Big East football conference as the South Florida Bulls will take on the Pittsburgh Panthers. The latest college football odds on this game can be found at online sportsbook, BetPhoenix.
The Bulls have been on a roll this year. South Florida easily disposed of an outmanned Texas El Paso but did have a few lapses on the defensive side of the ball. There were no lapses offensively with the Bulls piling up 575 yards and able to run or throw whenever they wanted. Quarterback BJ Danielshad a productive and mistake free game through the air with a pair of touchdowns against zero interceptions. Daniels spread the ball around to nine different receivers and when he wasn’t throwing he was using his legs to lead a rushing attack that totaled 373 yards and averaging over eight yards per tote.
Daniels ran for 130 yards on 15 carries and received plenty of help with four other backs combining for 243 yards on 30 carries. The defense gave up a respectable 339 yards but needed to rebound after allowing 17 first half points. Mission accomplished as the Miners scored just seven second half points while USF intercepted three passes and returned one for six.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are struggling. For the second consecutive week the Panthers struggled; last week on defense and in week four on the offensive side of the ball. Pittsburgh never really got untracked on offense which their 268 yards clearly states. Ray Graham (21-89) was the face of the running game that barely cleared 100 yards and averaged less than three yards per try. Quarterback Tino Sunseri didn’t make any mistakes but simply couldn’t get the ball downfield and stretch the Notre Dame defense.
With Ray Graham leading the team in receptions it’s obvious his options were limited down the field. Pitt was just 7 of 17 on third down was short of what was needed to drive the ball leaving the outcome of this game almost squarely on the shoulders of the defense. The Fighting Irish finished with nearly 400 yards but were limited to 6 of 15 on third down conversions but the Panthers intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble to help keep the scoreboard manageable.
The Panthers will have plenty of pride on the line as they attempt to get a big win and turn their early season around against the undefeated South Florida Bulls.
