College Football Preview: Ohio State vs. Michigan State
College Football Preview: Ohio State vs. Michigan State

The Ohio State Buckeyes have started to flounder this year, but a win against Michigan State could change that and turn this season around.

The latest college football betting odds for this game and the entire schedule on week five can be found at online sportsbook, BetPhoenix.

The Buckeyes improved their record to 3-1 last weekend with a win over the Colorado Buffaloes of the Pac-12. Ohio State got the win over Colorado last weekend, but the Buckeyes barely outgained the Buffaloes with Ohio State putting up 336 yards of offense compared to 314 by the Buffs. The Buckeyes went with the freshman quarterback for the majority of the day in Braxton Miller. Miller wasn't impressive at all throwing the ball as the Buckeye quarterback was just 5/13 on the day for 83 yards, however Miller did throw for two scores and zero interceptions. Miller put his athleticism on display as the freshman rushed for 83 yards on 17 attempts against the Buffaloes.

Defensively the Buckeyes got hurt through the air as Colorado threw for 238 yards on the day against the Buckeye secondary. Ohio State will be facing a Michigan State squad on Saturday that runs a very balanced offense and has one of the top quarterbacks in the Big Ten in Kirk Cousins.

The Michigan State Spartans defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas 45-7 this past weekend in East Lansing. Under center for the Spartans was once again their star quarterback Kirk Cousins. Cousins was impressive once again for Michigan State, completing 13/22 for 213 yards and a score. The Spartans need to have an effective ground attack for their offense to remain effective as the Spartans are one of the few teams that like to establish the run and then run play action which mirrors the run exactly.

The ground game for the Spartans against the Chippewas was impressive as MSU gained 197 yards on the ground on 47 attempts. The Spartan defense played well against an unimpressive Central Michigan attack. The Chippewas were able to manage just 112 yards on the day against the Spartans as Michigan State completely shut down the Central Michigan offense. It goes without saying that the Spartans will need a strong performance from Cousins on Saturday, but keep an eye on Leveon Bell who had a very strong game against the Chippewas, rushing for 81 yards and three scores on just eight carries.

The Spartans have the better talent and the ability to win this game, but playing on the road is tough in the Big Ten. Ohio State has a solid winning tradition and will be put to the test in this game.
